Tell us if you've ever competed in a relationship to "one-up" a friend or ex, like Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey seem to have done with their engagements.

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey got engaged within hours of each other and already everyone is comparing Jessica and Vanessa Minillo's rings, potential wedding locations, and dresses.  So, we're asking you to tell us:

Do you think people really compete in relationships? Have you ever been guilty of trying to "one-up" a friend, ex, neighbor or co-worker by having a better party, more expensive clothes, or other forms of material competition?

Mission Impossible: Avoiding Your Ex

Excuse me Mr. Potter, you are mistaken. He who must not be named is not Lord Voldemort, it’s my ex. The guy I’d love to forget ever existed. Sure, I was once happy as a lamb to be in that relationship. The same lamb that’s in line to become the next dinner item from the slaughterhouse...(sigh). Ignorance isn't always bliss, is it?

But I would rather call it an observation, a thought or a “musing” that I have been rolling around inside of my brain. It’s a phrase that has caught my attention or for some, should I say, the phrase has become a way of life.

Wack in the Sack

A friend of mine finally told me last week that her man was no good. She had been hiding it because she felt stupid and taken advantage of. Been there, done that. It seems he was unsupportive, passive aggressive, and just a plain old jerk. But wait, there’s more: over the course of their relationship he had taken her for thousands of dollars. When she told me, I wasn’t shocked or judgmental. Actually, my first feeling was curiosity: What had this brother brought to the table? Why was he worth the price of a small house? So I, Racy JC, surmised that this brother must be laying pipe like all get-out. Right? But when I asked her about it she said he wasn’t that great in the sack and lately sex was pretty nonexistent anyway. What the F*CK! Why are you with him then?

Music, Subways, and Intercultural Dating

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing my now-good friend and super cool chick, Heidi Kole. She is a busy girl so you have to interview her whenever you can sneak a few moments. For me it was when she was getting groceries at her favorite Spanish Harlem bodega and sort of talking to me on the phone. I heard her order lemon juice (no doubt for her voice, as she is a musician) and cucumbers (not sure what they were for, hum). Anyway, between Heidi’s Spanish, the check-out girl yelling unintelligibly, and Heidi struggling with her packages I was able to glean enough information to do a this piece.
